Dance Classes for kids ages 12+

After you've chosen a class, you will use our registration software Sawyer to register or schedule your free trial.

You will be prompted to create an account if this is your first time logging into Sawyer. It should only take a few minutes!

Please contact the studio if you run into any trouble.

All dancers should have their hair securely pulled back away from the face. Jewelry, wristbands, and watches should be left at home. Dancers should bring their belongings in a dance bag and change their shoes at the studio.

We recommend purchasing everything your child needs for class conveniently through our online store. Ordered items will be delivered right to your home!

Ballet Classes:

Leotard: Solid black leotard. No removable skirts or tutus.
Tights: Pink “convertible” style tights (to transition from footed to bare feet). Tights should be worn under leotards.
Shoes: Pink canvas or leather ballet slippers

Modern and Lyrical Classes: 

Clothing: Form fitted clothing is required. Students can wear leotards (of any color or pattern) or fitted tank tops with leggings, tights, or dance shorts. Dance dresses (leotard with attached skirt) as well as gymnastics style "biketards" are also allowed.
Tights: Optional. Tights if worn, should be “convertible” style. Tights should be worn under leotards, dance dresses, or dance shorts.
Shoes: Barefeet for modern and contemporary classes. "Lyrical" half-sole dance shoes for lyrical class.

Jazz Classes: 

Clothing: Form-fitted clothing is required. Students can wear leotards (of any color or pattern) or fitted tank tops with leggings, tights, or dance shorts. Dance dresses (leotard with attached skirt) as well as gymnastics style "biketards" are also allowed.
Tights: Optional. Tights if worn, should be “convertible” style. Tights should be worn under leotards, dance dresses, or dance shorts.
Shoes: Tan slip-on jazz shoes

Acro Classes: 

Clothing: Form-fitted clothing is required. Students can wear leotards (of any color or pattern) or fitted tank tops with leggings, tights, or dance shorts. Dance dresses (leotard with attached skirt) as well as gymnastics style "biketards" are also allowed.
Tights: Optional. Tights if worn, should be “convertible” style. Tights should be worn under leotards, dance dresses, or dance shorts.
Shoes: Barefeet or canvas "half-sole" shoes

Musical Theater Classes:

Clothing: Form-fitted clothing is required. Students can wear leotards or fitted tank tops with leggings, tights, or dance shorts.
Tights: Optional. Tights if worn, should be “convertible” style. Tights should be worn under leotards, dance dresses, or dance shorts.
Shoes: Tan slip-on jazz shoes

Tap Classes: 

Clothing: Form-fitted clothing is required. Students can wear leotards or fitted tank tops with leggings, tights, or dance shorts.
Tights: Optional. Tights if worn, should be “convertible” style.
Shoes: Tan mary-jane buckle style tap shoes* (level 1 only), tan oxford-style "tie-up" tap shoes for level 2 and up tap classes.

*Please remove clip-on bows. Velcro is ideal over a buckle. "Ties" can be replaced with a hair elastic so dancers can easily slip on. 

Hip Hop Classes: 

Clothing: Clothing should allow movement. No jeans allowed. Students can wear leotards, t-shirts, or tank tops on top. On the bottom, students can wear leggings, jazz pants, dance shorts, athletic shorts, or athletic pants.
Shoes: Dance sneakers or supportive clean tennis shoes (reserved for dance only)
Other: Knee pads are optional

Acro
Learn the basics and work on advancing your skills in this flexible Acro class! Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic techniques, all to each student's individual level of experience. And it's fun, too!

Hip-Hop
An urban blend of music video & funky dance styles performed to Hip-Hop & Pop music. Students will learn flexibility, rhythm & coordination and be encouraged to dance outside of the box and bring their own personality to each movement. We pride ourselves on being a family-oriented dance studio and go out of our way to find clean age-appropriate music.

Musical Theater
Students will learn creativity, acting techniques, musicality and have the opportunity to sing along. This is THE class for performers and those drawn to the stage. Music is set to popular and classical American Musicals.

Ballet
Ballet classes are a progressive series of classes in classical technique beginning with fundamental placement and terminology. Each student will work to build the discipline, strength, and flexibility required for more intensive study.

Jazz
Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance techniques, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as broadway, street, and contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movements.

Tap
A form of dance emphasizing and requiring balance, coordination, a sense of rhythm, and fine motor control of the feet.

Modern
Modern, Lyrical & Contemporary dance classes blend the skills of alignment, balance, and centering with self-expression.

All students in our Recreational Division will have the opportunity to perform on stage!

Our end-of-season recital in June is the highlight of the year.  Dancers showcase everything that they have learned for their proud and supportive friends and family.  Our dancers grow as performers!

In preparation for the recital, Music in Motion charges for costumes in November and a recital fee that includes performance services in March.

We DO offer sibling and multi-class discounts! Our registration fee is waived for active-duty military.

During the summer months, and throughout the season, we offer shorter "mini-sessions" as well as camps so you can experience the joy of dance with a shorter commitment.

In addition to your tuition, families should expect an annual registration fee, a recital fee, and costume charges.
