Common Questions From Parents
Yes! With the exception of our youngest students in Mommy and Me classes and our non-recital mini-session, all students will have the opportunity to perform on stage!
There is no recital following our summer programs.
If you have a child that is looking for MORE time in the spotlight, we encourage your dancer to audition for one of our dance companies. Company dancers perform at local community events and dance competitions throughout the year.
We have dance classes for students as young as 1.5! Independent dance classes begin at age 3.
Students are ready for an independent dance class if they are potty-trained, comfortable being away from a caregiver for short amounts of time, and can follow simple directions.
We don't expect perfection! It is very normal for a first-time dancer to take a few weeks before feeling comfortable inside the dance studio.
Booking a free trial is a great way to make sure our programs are a good fit for your dancer before you register. Learn more about our preschool division HERE.
We want to ensure that our children, families, and teachers are protected. Our dance classroom environment strives to follow CDC recommendations as well as state and local guidelines.
We will continue to use guidance from experts and monitor updated protocols as new information is available about COVID-19.
We HOPE that your child loves their classes! We are here to support you and your child in your dance journey.
That being said, we understand that dance and our programs are not a fit for everyone.
An email to office@musicinmotion.com is required in advance of 14 days of the first of the month in order to withdraw and cancel tuition.
We always recommend trying dance classes for at least 1 month before making a final determination to withdraw. If you need help, our experienced and supportive teachers can provide you with tips on getting to and staying in dance classes!
All of our classes have age recommendations and an assigned level. Our team will use your child's first few classes to make sure they are in the BEST class. A free trial is a great way to see our programs in action. Our teachers can make level recommendations after seeing your child in class.
We group our students by a mix of ability and age groups:
Pre-School / Kinderdance Divisions: Combo classes starting with “Dance With Me” for age 18 months all the way to 6-year-olds turning 7.
Recreational Division: Levels 1 through 3 for ages 7+, some levels/classes may be combined. This division also includes beginner pre-teen and teen classes.
Training Division: Levels 4 and 5 for our intermediate and advanced level dance students typically ages 12+
Finally, feel free to contact the studio with questions regarding levels. We are happy to help!

For all dancers, there is a time to perform and a time to be self-absorbed. Classes are closed to visitors and parents are asked to wait outside the classroom. This policy allows the children to take risks with movement, focus on their feelings, and perform for themselves, not for others. Concentration, focus, and understanding are easier for students when the class can proceed without interruption or observation.
A few additional notes:
- Parents are welcome to stay in the waiting room during their students' classes or to join us for one of our adult dance classes. All conversation must be kept low.
- If you have a special circumstance or need for discussion, please contact us. We would love to chat further with you to see if we can address your family's individual needs and concerns.
- We offer a parent observation week for each class 2x/year. This may be in person or over webcam/Zoom access. We also offer open houses, parent dance weeks, parent/student dance events, and performance opportunities throughout the season in which families can get involved in their child’s dance education.
