We’ve made it through the end of 2020 and the holidays are finally upon us! This holiday season may look different, but that doesn’t have to change WHY we celebrate. The holidays have never been about the presents under our tree or the man sliding down our chimney at night, the holidays are about spending time with those you love and being thankful for who and what you have in your life. And when you bottle up those feelings of gratitude and love, you become joy!
We are BURSTING with joy this holiday season so we’re spreading the holiday cheer the best way we know how, we’re celebrating with dance. It's time to spin that dreidel and get merry and bright! Join us as we deck the halls with our dance moves!

Deck the halls with your dance moves!
Now it’s time to choreograph your OWN holiday dance! Use holiday-themed words for inspiration as you rock around the Christmas tree. Start by writing out a list of holiday words and then create a movement for each word. You can pantomime or build a movement based on your feelings about that word. Try bending like a candy cane or shining bright like a menorah – the possibilities are endless! Here are some awesome holiday words to broaden your vocabulary!
-
Movie night magic!
Leave those cell phones in the other room and pile your family on the couch for a family movie night. We all have our favorite holiday movies, but let’s keep the theme rolling with a holiday dance movie. Snuggle up and watch the dance unfold before your eyes! Dance themed movies, documentaries, and shows are on the rise and we highly recommend starting off with these dance-filled flicks.
-
Christmas carol your cares away!
Dance is the best emotional outlet for our kiddos to express their feelings and release their anxiety. And let’s face it, we have ALL been walking around 2020 with stress and anxiety through the roof. Blast your favorite Christmas song and let loose! Grab your whole family and dance out your emotions, it might seem silly and awkward in the moment, but you’ll feel amazing when the song ends.

Virtual is going viral!
The pandemic hit the performing arts community hard this past year, but artists have adapted with speed and ingenuity. Professional dance companies around the world are sharing their work online with virtual performances. Bring the performance home for your family with these holiday classics:
Clara’s Christmas Eve Dream - Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker
The Christmas Spectacular – At Home Holiday Special – Radio City Rockettes
No matter what holiday customs you follow, dance is the best way to celebrate! We hope this list brings you and yours loads of happiness and super silly memories. Dance it out and enjoy your holiday break! We’re looking forward to an exciting new year at the studio and can’t wait to reunite our dance family in 2021. Happy holidays from Music in Motion!
